Robinson Cruso runs in the 2.00 Newmarket, a class 623 handicap, and provides an excellent example of the difficulty of this particular mode of VDW.
Last time out he convincingly won his maiden, but only a class 29. In today's race he is thrown in at the handicap deep end, a class 623. Ordinarily I'd regard him as put in far too deep to consider a bet, and if he went on to win wouldn't have a regret of any kind. But in RC's case there is a complication in that in his second 2yo race he was thrown in even deeper and came a reasonable 6th in a class 1354. Still, in my view, too risky for a bet, but not a total shock if he wins.
